Job Title: Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Counselor

Position Overview:
We are seeking a compassionate, skilled, and dedicated DBT Counselor to join our team. As a DBT Counselor, you will work with individuals who are experiencing emotional distress, self-destructive behaviors, or mental health challenges, using the principles and techniques of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to help them achieve emotional regulation, improved interpersonal relationships, and a more balanced life.
The ideal candidate will have specialized training in DBT, a deep understanding of emotional regulation and distress tolerance, and a commitment to supporting clients through their therapeutic journey.
Key Responsibilities:
Individual Therapy: Provide one-on-one DBT therapy to clients struggling with emotional dysregulation, self-harm behaviors, suicidal ideation, or complex mental health conditions such as borderline personality disorder, depression, anxiety, and trauma.
Group Therapy: Facilitate DBT skills training groups focused on the four core modules of DBT: Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotional Regulation, and Interpersonal Effectiveness.
Phone Coaching: Provide DBT phone coaching per DBT protocol. The DBT Counselor is encouraged to set boundaries and provide phone coaching within reason. This is NOT a 24/7 expectation as the clinician's self-care and work-life balance must be prioritized.
Crisis Management: Offer support in crisis situations, including providing urgent interventions and crisis planning with clients, ensuring safety, and coordinating care as necessary.
Collaboration & Consultation: Work closely with other DBT therapists to gain support and engage in case consultation.
Assessment and Evaluation: Conduct thorough initial assessments, monitor client progress, and adjust treatment plans as needed to ensure clients are receiving the most effective care.
Documentation: Maintain accurate and timely documentation of sessions, treatment plans, progress notes, and client outcomes in compliance with organizational policies and state regulations.
Supportive Environment: Foster a therapeutic and non-judgmental environment that encourages clients to engage in treatment and practice DBT skills in daily life.
Qualifications:
Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related field.
Active state licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or Licensed Psychologist (Ph.D./Psy.D.).
Training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) through a recognized program is required.
Minimum of [2] years of experience providing individual therapy, with at least [1] year of experience in DBT or working with clients with complex emotional and behavioral challenges.
Strong understanding of DBT principles, especially the skills modules (Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotional Regulation, and Interpersonal Effectiveness).
Ability to work with individuals in crisis and manage high-stress situations.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Ability to work in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
Strong ethical standards and commitment to confidentiality and client privacy.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with individuals diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), complex trauma, or high emotional dysregulation.
Knowledge of other therapeutic modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), or mindfulness-based approaches.
Experience facilitating DBT skills groups.
DBT certification is preferred.
